Britta box: 2008 - Chicago Apartment
I made this for my girlfriend when she moved away to NYC to work at the Intrepid: sea, air, & space museum. It's meant to hold her old diaries, so I had to modify my original one-book sized design to accommodate 3 oddly shaped books. It's made kind of like a roll-top desk, with identical slats linked together with black thread. One end is connected to the body & the other ends in a machined strip of brass which acts as the latch. The protruding hooks interlock with aluminum opener buttons on the sides of the box. It was originally meant to have a key-latch like on sliding glass display cases, but the locking components I found looked terrible.
