Omni-bot: 2002 - SoildWorks
This is another doodle I did while helping people learn SolidWorks. It's a battle-bot based on Quake 3's control layout. Most of those fights come down to driver competency and mobility, so I worked out a system for side stepping, jumping, and climbing stairs just like in the game. The stair climbing arms are not yet modeled. The only problem with omni-wheels is that they are not very rugged. They look like big honkin' knobby tires, but can only climb over something 1/6th the wheel's diameter, vs 1/2 on a regular wheel. There are ways around that, but nothing very reliable. Anybody wanna give me 50 grand to build it?
