8-Bitty: 2012 - ThinkGeek
This project grew out of our earlier April Fools iCade project. The technology we developed became very popular and was incorporated into a large number of iPhone, iPad, & Android apps, so we thought it would be good to make a retro-styled controller that could work with any system. This also started as a ninja product for some reason although I can't remember why - I think it was NYC Toy Fair or something like that. We had about a week to cobble together a prototype with graphics & the correct number of buttons and our electrical engineer hacked together an iCade control board with a USB NES controller. Since it was retro, there wasn't a whole lot of room for industrial design, but I did get to do a few component layout sketches to work out where to fit all the extra buttons. I would have loved to have done a real controller project, but this is all I got.
